Substitute Nurse

About the role

The school is seeking a qualified Substitute Nurse to provide nursing assessment, first aid, medication administration, and health monitoring for students, staff, and visitors during temporary assignments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide nursing assessment, first aid, and emergency care for students, staff, and visitors.
• Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders, parent authorization, and school policy.
• Maintain accurate documentation of health visits, medications, treatments, and incidents in the school’s health record system.
• Assess ill or injured students, determine appropriate disposition, notify parents, or call emergency services when needed.
• Monitor students with chronic medical conditions and implement established healthcare plans.
• Follow communicable disease protocols and reportable health concerns.
• Review substitute nurse notes and student health alerts at the start of each assignment.
• Communicate significant health concerns to the School Nurse and administration before the end of the workday.
• Complete all required incident reports and documentation before leaving campus.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) with a current Louisiana nursing license or an ADN/ASN.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification.
• Previous experience in pediatric, school nursing, emergency, or community health preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, FERPA, and school policies.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with school administration and staff.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 30 lb and respond quickly in emergencies.
• Capability to safely assist students with mobility needs.
