Stretchable Electronics & Optics Internship for Artificial Skin

About the role

This internship focuses on research and innovation in stretchable electronics and optics for artificial skin demonstrators. You will work within the Microelectronics centre’s flexible electronics department, contributing to the development of pressure‑ and temperature‑sensing skin devices.

Key responsibilities

• Update and operate the characterization setup, using Python, Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
• Fabricate and characterize stretchable optical waveguides made from elastomer materials.
• Integrate optically sensitive materials (LEDs, photodiodes) into the waveguides.
• Characterize complete devices for pressure and temperature sensing.
• Perform hands‑on laboratory work in a clean‑room environment.

Required profile

• Master or engineering student in electronics, embedded systems, material science or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of electronic design and circuitry (highly appreciated).
• Autonomous, curious and passionate about technological innovation.
• Strong interest in practical work and experimentation, with a maker‑oriented mindset.
• Knowledge in bioelectronics is an asset.
