Staff Research Scientist, FAIR (RL / LLMs)

About the role

Meta's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team is seeking a Staff Research Scientist to drive breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, focusing on reinforcement learning and large language models. The role involves pioneering research that expands the scientific understanding of intelligent machines.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research to advance the science and technology of intelligent machines.
• Develop methods that enable learning the semantics of diverse data modalities such as images, video, text, audio, and code generation.
• Pursue long‑term ambitious research goals while defining and achieving immediate milestones.
• Contribute to the research community through high‑impact publications.
• Open‑source high‑quality code and ensure reproducible research outcomes.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, completed before joining.
• Strong research background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, computational statistics, applied mathematics, or related areas.
• Track record of research publications demonstrating theoretical or empirical contributions.
• Experience developing and debugging software in Python or similar programming languages.
• Ability to analyze and collect data from various sources.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain work authorization in the country of employment.
