Senior RF Engineer – Quantum Hardware

About the role

Alice & Bob is building a fault‑tolerant quantum computer based on superconducting Schrödinger cat qubits. As a Senior RF Engineer you will design and validate the RF hardware that controls these qubits, ensuring the instrumentation scales with the rapid growth of quantum processors.

Key responsibilities

• Design custom RF components (power amplifiers, LNAs, filters, bias tees) and front‑end PCBs, using 3D EM simulation before prototyping.
• Define measurement plans, build test setups and characterization benches, and run verification using VNAs, oscilloscopes, SMUs and spectrum analyzers (mostly scripted in Python).
• Upgrade existing RF/DC systems to meet evolving requirements for spectral purity, pulse shape and power stability as the number of control channels increases.
• Troubleshoot instrumentation, control electronics and PCB issues, performing root‑cause analysis when needed.
• Collaborate closely with quantum hardware, physics and software teams, staying up‑to‑date with state‑of‑the‑art technologies and documenting work.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Engineering, Physics or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in RF design, characterization and control electronics, including PCB design.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally in English (French a plus).

Required skills

• RF hardware design and signal‑processing (integrity, modulation/demodulation, filtering, noise analysis).
• 3D electromagnetic simulation tools (e.g., HFSS, CST).
• PCB design tools (Altium, KiCad) and hands‑on prototyping.
• Python for test automation and remote instrument control (SCPI).
• Experience with RF test equipment: VNAs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, SMUs, signal generators.
• FPGA integration for control electronics.
