Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

CloudHQ is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, planning and delivery of advanced mechanical systems for hyperscale data centre projects across Europe. The role combines deep technical expertise with project‑management responsibility, ensuring that HVAC, cooling, fire‑suppression and thermal‑load solutions meet reliability, efficiency and sustainability targets.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the subject‑matter expert for mechanical system design, reviewing specifications for HVAC, chilled water networks, air handling units, cooling towers and fire‑suppression systems.
• Optimize thermodynamic efficiency and fluid dynamics, using CFD modelling to simulate airflow, thermal loads and identify hotspots.
• Design redundant systems to support continuous operation during peak loads and maintenance windows.
• Lead mechanical scopes through all project phases, from feasibility studies and master‑plan input to tendering, construction integration and commissioning.
• Coordinate with contractors, consultants and internal teams, ensuring compliance with European building codes and ASHRAE standards (e.g., TC9.9).
• Monitor project budgets and schedules, delivering solutions on‑time and within budget.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing mechanical systems for large‑scale data centre or hyperscale environments.
• Strong knowledge of European building regulations and ASHRAE standards.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and manage complex projects.
• Willingness to travel regularly across EMEA sites.
