Senior Insurance Legal Counsel

About the role

Alan is seeking a Senior Insurance Legal Counsel to lead its regulatory strategy and protect its competitive edge in the health and disability insurance market. You will operate with full autonomy, shaping the company’s positioning, risk appetite, and growth through expert legal guidance.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement regulatory strategies for Alan’s products and contracts, influencing market positioning.
• Set risk appetite and translate complex regulatory constraints into business advantages.
• Act as the legal voice in strategic conversations with prospects and customers, leveraging regulatory expertise and negotiation skills to close deals.
• Lead legal responses to major RFPs, craft offer strategies for large accounts, and represent Alan in complex negotiations.
• Ensure product excellence and member protection by advising on regulatory compliance, pricing, options definition, UX design, and complaint management.
• Own insurance compliance posture, translate obligations into operational processes, lead responses to unplanned inspections, and proactively manage exposure.
• Identify strategic risks, report compliance obligations to the board and committees, and provide clear, forward‑looking guidance.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in insurance law, preferably within health or disability insurance.
• Deep understanding of regulatory requirements affecting insurance products and contracts.
• Proven ability to influence business strategy and negotiate high‑stakes agreements.
• Strong analytical skills to assess risk, compliance obligations, and market dynamics.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with senior stakeholders, prospects, and regulatory bodies.
