Researcher in watershed-scale modelling of emergent pollutant transport

About the role

The University of Technology of Compiègne (UTC) is seeking a research engineer for the Avenues Laboratory within the Department of Urban Engineering. The position is part of the TIMéEAU/GESTEAU project, funded by the Hauts‑de‑France region, and focuses on modelling the transport of emerging pesticides and their metabolites in the Baugy water catchment that supplies drinking water to the city of Compiègne.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct a comprehensive literature review on emerging pesticides and their behaviour in water and soil.
• Study pollutant dynamics and accumulation at the catchment scale.
• Design and implement a modelling framework to simulate pollutant transfer under various climate scenarios.
• Identify, collect, and analyse the data required for the model.
• Interpret modelling results and formulate recommendations for water‑catchment managers.
• Prepare progress reports and scientific documentation.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or equivalent) in environmental science, hydrogeology, water resources, or a related field.
• Experience in catchment‑scale modelling and data analysis.
• Familiarity with climate‑impact scenarios and pollutant transport processes.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
