Research Engineer – Process Development & Scale-up of Bio-based Molecules

About the role

We are looking for a research engineer to join the TIMR joint research unit at the University of Technology of Compiègne. The role focuses on developing, optimizing and scaling up chemical conversion processes for bio‑based molecules such as HMF and DFF within the European CERISEA project.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimise batch or continuous chemical transformation processes for bio‑based molecules.
• Perform material and energy balances, analyse process performance and identify bottlenecks.
• Plan and execute pilot‑scale experimental campaigns, ensuring traceability and monitoring of key process indicators.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary partners from academia and industry (ARKEMA, MICHELIN, IFPEN, etc.) to advance the project towards TRL 4‑5.
• Document experimental results and contribute to the preparation of technical reports and publications.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related field.
• Experience with laboratory scale reactions and interest in scale‑up to pilot scale.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
