Remote Sensing Scientist – Methane Emissions (Consultant)

About the role

The International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) seeks a Remote Sensing Scientist to support its Methane Alert and Response System (MARS). This 11‑week consultancy will focus on testing and improving methane emissions quantification methods using satellite and in‑situ data, especially in controlled release experiments.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse on‑site and remotely sensed data from controlled release experiments to assess MARS methane emission estimates.
• Identify sources of error and critical gaps in current quantification methods.
• Collaborate with the MARS Remote Sensing team to develop and test new analytical approaches.
• Report findings and recommendations to the Programme Management Officer.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (MSc) in atmospheric science, remote sensing, energy sciences or a related field.
• At least one year of experience with atmospheric science and satellite data for point‑source greenhouse gas emissions.
• Experience coordinating and conducting controlled release experiments.
• Knowledge of methane emissions, particularly in the oil and gas sector, and high‑resolution satellite detection techniques.
