Principal Engineer - Physical Design

About the role

Microchip Technology Inc. is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the physical design implementation of 32‑bit general‑purpose and wireless microcontrollers and microprocessors. You will work on cutting‑edge semiconductor projects within a global, multi‑billion‑dollar organization.

Key responsibilities

• Implement full physical design flow: floor planning, placement optimization, clock tree synthesis, routing, crosstalk avoidance, and physical verification.
• Perform chip power integrity analyses, including IR‑drop, signal EM, and power EM for multiple voltage domains.
• Apply hierarchical systems‑level design techniques for designs exceeding multi‑million gates.
• Develop and refine place‑and‑route and low‑power methodologies.
• Provide timing‑closure support and optimize clock tree setup/debug for best QoR.
• Create multi‑voltage island floorplans, estimate die size, and obtain bond‑out approvals.
• Develop flow automation and deliver clean physical verification results.
• Collaborate with external vendors, IP sources, and international design teams.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 + years of hands‑on experience in physical design of ASICs or SoCs.
• Self‑motivated team player capable of working across geographically diverse groups.
• Demonstrated autonomy and leadership potential.
