Post-doctoral Fellow in Quantum Foundations and Algebraic Methods

About the role

Télécom Paris, part of the Institut Mines-Télécom, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in quantum foundations and algebraic methods for the INFRES department. The position is hosted by Quriosity, a joint Inria and Télécom Paris team within the LTCI laboratory and the Computer Science and Networks department, in Palaiseau on the Saclay plateau. It is part of the PIQ project "New algebraic tools for causal decompositions of quantum processes", led by Augustin Vanrietvelde, covering phase 1 for 18 months.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research on causal decompositions of quantum processes within phase 1 of the PIQ project.
• Supervise and mentor student projects and internships.
• Contribute to the scientific visibility of Télécom Paris, the Institut Mines-Télécom and the Institut Polytechnique de Paris.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent in physics, mathematics, computer science or a relevant discipline, obtained no later than the start date.
• Solid understanding of quantum foundations (quantum causality) or advanced algebraic methods, with strong mathematical reasoning, proof-writing and critical analysis.
• Able to carry out independent theoretical research, write rigorous scientific papers and communicate scientific English, written and spoken.
• Good team spirit, ability to engage in dialogue and synthesise ideas, and strong writing and teaching skills.

Required skills

• Desirable: knowledge of operator algebras, quantum information and diagrammatic formalisms.
• An advantage: experience in symbolic or numerical computation applied to theoretical problems and in supervising students.
