Medical Affairs Specialist - IOL Proctoring and Medical Information

About the role

This Medical Affairs Specialist position sits in the Medical Affairs group and supports proctoring of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and medical information requests (MIR). It ensures consistent and optimal clinical outcomes by analysing outcomes and suboptimal results so that the use of J&J products can be optimised, covering clinic workflow, patient pre-management, pre- and post-operative checks and other factors affecting patient outcomes. The role is home-based with up to 20% travel for congresses, workshops, training and face-to-face consultations, and reports to the Associated Director Clinical Services, Medical Affairs.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse IOL cases and calculations, focusing on PCIOLs included in approved J&J training programmes and following IOL calculation processes.
• Manage MIR, giving clinical responses and guidance to healthcare professionals within 4 days, in line with J&J Vision policies, messaging and processes.
• Generate MIR statistics reports, including queries and complaints, to monitor product clinical performance in collaboration with Product Safety, Marketing, R&D and Commercial.
• Assist healthcare professionals with post-operative outcome analysis and provide optimisation and problem-solving support at sites with suboptimal results.
• Provide clinical expert-level support to internal and external customers, with a focus on new product introductions.
• Support demonstrations and clinical studies as required.

Required profile

• Degree in optometry or a similar degree in ophthalmology.
• Minimum 5 years of clinical and surgical ophthalmic background, including 2-4 years of practical experience in ophthalmic surgical centres or hospitals and/or managing cataract patients.
• IOL subject-matter expertise and detailed knowledge of products and their clinical use.
• Fluent English and French; Italian is valued.
• Training or teaching experience preferred.
