Mechanical Engineer – Vehicle R&D & Prototyping

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer you will join Pony’s hardware team in Bordeaux, working closely with the Head of Hardware to design, prototype and improve the company’s unique double‑pony e‑bike. You will be involved from concept to field validation, ensuring the vehicle meets operational and reliability standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance 3D vehicle models, create new part designs and produce manufacturing drawings.
• Prototype designs using in‑house 3D printing and validate integration on actual bikes.
• Design and execute tests on bike configurations, geometry, wheel size and electric assist strategies, including field trials.
• Collect and analyse field‑reported issues, investigate root causes and drive concrete improvements with production partners.
• Support maintenance teams with technical queries, part changes and documentation, and help standardise operational procedures.

Required profile

• Master’s degree from a top engineering school.
• At least 1 year of mechanical engineering experience in an industrial environment.
• Strong curiosity across mechanical, electrical and software domains, with a fast‑learning, test‑and‑adjust mindset.
• Clear communication skills for interacting with field staff, management and external partners.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D modeling and CAD.
• Ability to produce detailed technical drawings and select appropriate materials.
• Knowledge of mechanical dimensioning and common fabrication processes.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, especially 3D printing.
