Mechanical Engineer – Lead Hardware Development

About the role

Norma is a climate‑tech startup developing supercapacitive carbon capture technology. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the hardware development, taking our CO₂ capture system from lab‑scale proof of concept to an industrial prototype and pilot plant.

Key responsibilities

• Define design and process requirements for prototypes, pilots and demo units, translating R&D outputs into buildable systems.
• Execute the full development cycle hands‑on, including mechanical design, CAD modelling, fabrication, assembly, testing and iterative improvement.
• Plan, commission and build the pilot plant, creating P&IDs, test plans and operational documentation.
• Ensure engineering traceability and rigor across drawings, interface control documents and design records.
• Coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers and junior engineers to support R&D and scale the hardware effort.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (master’s accepted).
• Minimum 2 years of product development experience in a hardware company.
• Completed at least one full development cycle from concept to field implementation or production.

Required skills

• CAD (mechanical design).
• Hands‑on assembly and testing.
• Design for manufacturing, including machining and 3D printing.
• Python and MATLAB (nice to have).
• P&ID creation.
• Fluid and thermal system knowledge.
• Understanding of electrical and power systems.
• Standards compliance and project management.
