Machine Learning Engineer – LLM & Generative AI Specialist

About the role

Owkin is seeking a Scientist II Machine Learning Engineer to design, develop, and deploy cutting‑edge AI solutions focused on Large Language Models and Generative AI for biomedical research. The role bridges experimental data science with production‑ready ML systems, working closely with data science and engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop scalable machine‑learning libraries, tooling, and research workflows in partnership with researchers.
• Shape infrastructure requirements, drive tool and software choices, and champion engineering best practices.
• Design systems for experiment tracking, reproducibility, and end‑to‑end model lifecycle management.
• Accelerate rapid prototyping of novel models and transition research into robust implementations.

Required profile

• Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science or related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience with Python and production deep‑learning deployments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously.

Required skills

• Python, PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Transformer architectures, Hugging Face, agentic workflows and Retrieval‑Augmented Generation.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and SageMaker.
• CI/CD, Docker, version control (Git) and distributed training frameworks (e.g., vLLM).
