Legal Counsel

About the role

BYD France is seeking a qualified Legal Counsel to join its dynamic legal team. You will support the company’s expanding portfolio of electric vehicles and new energy solutions by providing expert legal guidance across commercial, regulatory, and data‑privacy matters.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, negotiate and advise on complex commercial contracts such as distributor, dealer, supply, procurement and after‑sales service agreements.
• Assist business teams with public procurement procedures and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
• Provide legal advice to managers, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
• Manage legal disputes, coordinate litigation or arbitration, and work with external counsel.
• Summarise business risks, deliver training to internal teams, and conduct internal audits on GDPR, AI Act and distribution law.
• Liaise with BYD’s headquarters legal team and European subsidiaries.

Required profile

• Master of Law degree with solid knowledge of European law.
• Holder of the CRFPA or equivalent bar admission.
• 3‑5 years of experience as in‑house counsel or in private practice, preferably in data privacy or the automotive sector.
• Strong commercial and cross‑cultural negotiation skills.
• Proactive, diligent, able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and spoken English; additional European languages or Chinese are a plus.
