Human Factors Engineering and Flight Deck Specialist

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a Human Factors Engineering and Flight Deck Specialist to join its Toulouse‑Saint Martin team. You will apply Human Factors Engineering (HFE) principles to create user‑centred workstations and human‑machine interfaces for military air platforms, including cockpits, flight decks, mission consoles and ground control stations.

Key responsibilities

• Design workstations (geometry, layout, furnishing) for cockpits, flight decks, mission consoles and ground control stations.
• Develop HMI concepts, multimodal interaction, control units, indicators, displays and graphical user interfaces.
• Apply the end‑to‑end HFE process throughout the system life‑cycle, from concept analysis to entry into service.
• Conduct mission, task, ergonomic, workload and human‑error analyses.
• Produce hardware and software prototypes of HMI solutions according to development phases.

Required profile

• Proven experience applying Human Factors Engineering to workstation/HMI design.
• Knowledge of classical ergonomics criteria such as visibility, reachability, physical usability, ingress and egress.
• Understanding of cognitive ergonomics criteria including operator workload, situational awareness and human error.
• Familiarity with environmental aspects affecting operation (lighting, NVIS compatibility, noise).
