Head of School – School of Aviation

About the role

The University of New South Wales is seeking a senior academic leader to head its School of Aviation. Reporting to the Dean of Science, the Head of School will translate UNSW’s strategic vision into tangible outcomes, overseeing teaching, research, and flight operations across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and integrated planning for the School, aligning with the university’s “Progress for All” priorities.
• Manage a budget of approximately $11 million, overseeing 11 000 flying hours, 60 full‑time flying students and 2 500 lecture hours annually.
• Lead and develop academic staff, supported by Deputy Heads, Academic Convenors and a School Manager.
• Foster partnerships with industry, regulatory bodies and external research collaborators.
• Ensure compliance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority requirements for flight training and research.

Required profile

• Proven senior academic leadership experience in aviation, aerospace or related disciplines.
• Strong record of research, teaching and industry engagement.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets and complex operational units.
• Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
