Energy Aware Media Research Scientist

About the role

InterDigital’s Video Lab is seeking a Research Scientist to advance its Energy‑Aware Media project. The role focuses on making the video streaming pipeline more energy‑efficient from content creation to end‑user display while preserving high‑quality user experience.

Key responsibilities

• Design algorithms and systems that reduce end‑to‑end energy consumption in video streaming.
• Develop adaptive bitrate (ABR) ladder designs and network‑adaptive streaming techniques.
• Create CDN and edge‑delivery strategies that minimize energy cost.
• Optimize encoding ladders and live‑streaming workflows for low‑power operation.
• Collaborate with the Media Services research group and contribute to standards and tools.

Required profile

• Qualified researcher with strong background in video compression, processing, and machine learning.
• Experience in streaming technologies and energy‑efficiency research.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative research environment.
