Head of Internal Control and Operational Risk

About the role

Swan, an embedded banking specialist, is looking for a Head of Internal Control and Operational Risk to lead the day-to-day operation and continuous improvement of its risk management and second-line permanent control frameworks. Reporting to the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, the role ensures that Swan identifies, assesses, monitors and manages its material risks within the risk appetite approved by its governing bodies. It is a leadership position at the intersection of Risk, Compliance, FinCrime, Security, Operations, Finance, Product, Technology and Legal.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure operational risks are identified, assessed and assigned to accountable owners, and that controls are risk-based, properly designed and effectively implemented.
• Maintain the Risk Appetite Framework, monitor the risk profile against approved tolerances, investigate breaches and drive timely remediation.
• Lead the operational risk framework: coordinate risk mapping and risk and control self-assessments across France and European branches, define the framework for incidents, losses and near misses, and prepare reporting and escalation proposals for the CRCO.
• Steer the group-wide permanent control framework and local branch frameworks, define a risk-based second-line control plan, test controls and escalate material weaknesses to the CRCO.
• Produce decision-oriented dashboards and reports for the CRCO, senior management and governance committees.
• Lead a team of 4 to 5 professionals covering internal control, operational risk and remediation monitoring, defining responsibilities, allocating resources and coaching the team.

Required profile

• Significant experience in internal control, enterprise or operational risk management, audit or another second-line control function.
• Hands-on experience with risk mapping, RCSA, control plans, control testing, incidents, KRI and remediation, and with developing or operating a Risk Appetite Framework.
• Experience leading and developing a multidisciplinary team.
• Clear communication in French and English, in front of regulators, boards or product teams.
