Engineer/Post‑Doc in Stretchable Electronics & Optics for Artificial Skin

About the role

The position is a 12‑month fixed‑term research role within the Centre of Microelectronics and the Flexible Electronics Department at Mines Saint‑Étienne. The successful candidate will work on stretchable optical waveguides and their integration into artificial skin demonstrators.

Key responsibilities

• Fabricate and characterize elastomer waveguides for pressure and temperature sensing.
• Integrate optically sensitive materials and components (LEDs, photodiodes) into the waveguides.
• Validate complete sensing devices in a clean‑room environment.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent (Bac + 5) in engineering, electronics, embedded systems or related field.
• Autonomous, curious, rigorous with a strong interest in hands‑on experimentation.
• Experience working in clean‑room facilities is an asset.

Required skills

• Python programming (essential for test‑bench development).
• Knowledge of optics, photonics, soft electronics or materials science (asset).
• Electronic design and circuitry knowledge.
• Experience with Arduino and/or Raspberry Pi (advantage).
