Android Developer – Cross‑Platform (Inbox)

About the role

Proton is looking for a full‑stack cross‑platform Android Engineer to help build Proton Inbox, which includes Mail and Calendar. You will work with Jetpack Compose and Rust to deliver high‑quality, scalable mobile experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Android applications using a blend of Rust (cross‑platform) and Kotlin (native) technologies.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of features, from scoping and planning to delivery and iteration.
• Explore new technologies and methodologies to drive innovation in mobile development.
• Optimize applications for performance, usability, and responsiveness across diverse devices and screen sizes.
• Master memory management, multithreading, and concurrency to enhance app performance.
• Design scalable solutions, considering data caching, network bandwidth, and server load.
• Maintain a customer‑centric mindset, continuously seeking feedback to improve user experience.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and a creative approach to technical challenges.
• Passion for continuous learning and staying up‑to‑date with mobile development trends.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proven experience building Android applications with Kotlin.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Kotlin for Android development.
• Experience with Jetpack Compose.
• Familiarity with Rust for cross‑platform components.
• Understanding of mobile app architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Knowledge of memory management, multithreading, and concurrency techniques.
