Software Engineer – Computation Kernels & Performance

About the role

Arago is looking for a Performance Software Engineer to develop the core computation software that powers its custom AI accelerators. You will work at the intersection of low‑level software and cutting‑edge hardware, ensuring deterministic, high‑efficiency execution of AI workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement custom on‑board kernels and runtime primitives for AI accelerator chips.
• Bridge host systems and proprietary hardware, providing tooling for real‑time debugging and profiling.
• Participate in chip bring‑up, validating hardware/software interactions and performance targets.
• Develop and maintain bare‑metal startup code, linker scripts, memory layouts, and peripheral drivers.
• Continuously optimise computation kernels for speed, determinism, and resource utilisation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong experience in low‑level systems programming with C/C++ and assembly.
• Deep knowledge of bare‑metal development, MMIO, interrupts, timers, synchronization and direct peripheral access.
• Solid understanding of computer architecture concepts such as pipelines, caches, memory hierarchies, virtual/physical addressing, atomics and DMA.
• Hands‑on experience with RISC‑V and/or ARM architectures, including instruction sets, calling conventions and intrinsics.
• Proficiency in debugging hardware/software interfaces using GDB, JTAG, trace/debug tools, simulators, emulators or FPGA platforms.
• Ability to read hardware specifications and translate them into robust software implementations.
