Senior Programme Management Officer – Mining Unit

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a Senior Programme Management Officer to lead its Mining Unit within the Industry Innovation Branch, based in Paris. The incumbent will provide strategic leadership to promote responsible mining, circular minerals value chains, and support governments in creating enabling policy environments.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and manage the UNEP mining portfolio, engaging with UNEP divisions, regional and country offices to ensure internal cooperation.
• Develop, implement and monitor the impact of mining projects, reviewing documents, identifying challenges and defining corrective actions.
• Oversee partnerships with strategic organisations and initiatives related to responsible mining and circularity.
• Lead policy development, assess trends, and support governments in advancing sustainable mining practices.
• Formulate and execute the substantive work programme of the Industry Innovation Branch.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with proven experience in environmental policy, mining sector or sustainable resource management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multi‑stakeholder programmes and coordinate across international organisations.
• Strong analytical and reporting skills, with experience in monitoring project outcomes.
