Science Lead – Agriculture

About the role

The International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) seeks a Science Lead for Agriculture to shape its agricultural methane strategy. This 12‑month consultancy will be remote, reporting to the UN Environment Programme and collaborating with global partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and periodically update IMEO’s agricultural methane science strategy.
• Identify priority scientific knowledge gaps and emerging research opportunities.
• Provide scientific leadership across IMEO’s agricultural methane portfolio and represent IMEO in international scientific initiatives and expert groups.
• Lead scientific design and oversight for IMEO Science Studies in the agriculture sector.
• Review project deliverables, datasets, technical reports and publications.
• Coordinate cross‑country synthesis of findings and evaluate externally submitted science proposals.
• Contribute to reporting, donor engagement and support partnerships and capacity development with governments and international organisations.

Required profile

• Strong scientific background in agriculture and methane emissions.
• Proven experience leading interdisciplinary research programmes.
• Ability to work with international stakeholders and represent IMEO in expert groups.
