Research Engineering Manager

About the role

The Monitoring and Recalibration (MNR) team ensures the performance of our cat‑qubit Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) is continuously tracked and kept operational. As the manager you will lead an interdisciplinary group of quantum experimentalists, data engineers and software developers to advance automatic monitoring and recalibration graphs, delivering both internal tools for R&D experiments and external solutions shipped with customer QPUs.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monitoring and recalibration graphs, defining workflows, measurement cadence, ordering and conditional execution.
• Guarantee dashboard data quality by establishing fit validation, thresholds and rejection criteria to correctly identify healthy and faulty systems.
• Define and track product performance metrics, translating internal and client needs into measurable indicators and driving continuous improvement.
• Operate and improve the MNR service in production, fixing failures, enhancing graph efficiency and maximising chip availability.
• Lead and grow the team by setting technical direction, establishing software engineering standards, running team rituals and hiring new talent.
• Collaborate with other department teams to align feature requirements, prioritize work, share codebases and foster cross‑team cooperation.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in experimental physics, engineering or a related deep‑tech field with hands‑on experience on complex hardware systems.
• Proven ability to turn a research prototype into a reliable product.
• Solid experience in automated measurement and calibration of sophisticated systems.
• Strong data‑analysis and statistical rigor, including fit quality assessment, residual and uncertainty analysis.
• Good Python proficiency and familiarity with workflow orchestration (DAGs, scheduling, conditional execution), version control and CI.
• Experience leading interdisciplinary teams of physicists, software and data engineers.
• Excellent communication skills and fluent English; French is a plus.
