Quantum Compilation Scientist

About the role

Alice & Bob is building the first universal, fault‑tolerant quantum computer based on Schrödinger cat qubits. The Quantum Compilation Scientist will design and optimise the software toolchain that translates quantum programs into physical gate operations on our processors, bridging quantum physics and computer science.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Alice & Bob’s compilation tool suite, from theoretical studies to production‑ready implementation.
• Improve the resource estimator to integrate the latest architectural advances and make it usable by external users.
• File patents, publish scientific results and present findings at conferences.
• Mentor junior team members, interns and PhD students.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of compilation tools with hardware.
• Integrate new architectural improvements into the compilation flow without sacrificing performance.

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in quantum compilation, quantum error correction, fault‑tolerant quantum algorithms and classical compilation theory.
• PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Quantum Information Science or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving abilities and excellent communication skills for a cross‑functional environment.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• C++ or Rust (or another compiled language).
• Quantum compilation and error‑correction techniques.
• Fault‑tolerant quantum algorithm design.
• Classical language and compilation theory.
• Graph theory and branch‑and‑bound/constraint‑propagation algorithms (nice‑to‑have).
• Experience with compiler back‑ends such as LLVM or GCC (nice‑to‑have).
• Knowledge of computer architecture and operating systems (nice‑to‑have).
