Methane Alert and Response System Implementation Coordinator

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a consultant to coordinate the implementation of the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) within its International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO). Based in Paris, the role supports strategic development, government engagement, and partner coordination, primarily for activities in Turkmenistan.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver a concept and design for the technical support system, followed by a coordinated pilot phase.
• Manage snapshot, response‑rate, reporting and notification cycles, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
• Maintain and update the feedback‑tracking process and standardize MARS processes and templates.
• Provide targeted guidance on MARS coordination, liaising between technical teams and external stakeholders.
• Report progress and results to internal and external stakeholders, including the MARS Programme Manager.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in law, political science, environmental studies, sustainability, climate policy or a related field.
• Minimum four years of professional experience in environmental, climate or methane policy.
• Fluency in oral and written English; additional languages are an asset.
