IMEO Government Relations Support Consultant

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a consultant to support the International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) in Turkmenistan. The role focuses on developing government engagement strategies, coordinating partners, and delivering priority initiatives that accelerate methane reduction.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical input to IMEO’s government engagement strategy, ensuring target governments can interpret and act on methane data.
• Develop and design the deployment of IMEO’s Methane Training Series in at least five countries.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, including data, communications, and external partners, to streamline processes.
• Produce high‑quality reports on government engagement status, priorities, and technical barriers.
• Support the Methane Alert and Response System (MARS) by delivering timely notifications to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in environmental policy, climate policy, sustainability, law, political science, or a related field.
• Minimum four years of professional experience in environmental, climate, or methane policy.
• Proven experience coordinating cross‑functional technical and communication teams.
• Experience with satellite‑based methane monitoring is desirable.
• Experience designing, documenting, or automating operational processes is a plus.
