Ship Systems Rules Engineer

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Ship Systems Rules Engineer to join its Head Office in the Paris area (La Défense) or Saint‑Herblain (Nantes). The role focuses on developing and maintaining classification rules for ships and offshore units, especially concerning gaseous fuels and nuclear power.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and develop classification rules for the use of LNG, hydrogen, ammonia and nuclear power on merchant ships, offshore units and naval vessels.
• Participate in international working groups such as IMO, IACS and ISO.
• Lead or support R&D projects with industrial and academic partners.
• Provide technical regulatory support to operational teams for commercial projects.

Required profile

• Engineering graduate (master’s level) with a solid background in naval architecture, industrial risks or energy production processes.
• One to two years of experience in energy production, industrial risks, or the marine & offshore sector.
• Fluent in spoken and written English, able to produce technical documentation.
• Strong analytical, autonomous and interpersonal skills; willingness to travel abroad occasionally.

Required skills

• Knowledge of gaseous fuels such as LNG, hydrogen and ammonia.
• Understanding of nuclear power applications on ships.
• Familiarity with IMO, IACS and ISO standards.
• Experience with classification rule development.
