Optical Designer

About the role

The Optical Designer will join Umicore's Electro‑Optic Materials team in Acigné, France. You will work closely with customers and internal stakeholders to create cost‑effective, technically compliant optical and opto‑mechanical solutions that align with Umicore's manufacturing capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide optical and mechanical design solutions based on customer and internal specifications.
• Support the Sales Team during customer visits and exhibitions by delivering technical expertise.
• Assist Operations and Quality Assurance by identifying and resolving manufacturing issues related to design.
• Define optical performance criteria, prepare test specifications, and support measurement and validation of optical systems.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations of optical solutions for the Sales Team.

Required profile

• Degree in Physics or Engineering; focus on Optics is desirable.
• Basic knowledge of optical design principles and optical design software.
• Experience with infrared optical assemblies is a plus.
• Interest in software design and coding.
• Strong self‑management, project management skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Good command of English; French language skills are desirable.
• Team player with high attention to detail and technical affinity.
