Mechanical Engineer – Medical Device Development

About the role

Science is a clinical‑stage technology company developing medical devices that restore vision, cognition and mobility. We are seeking a hands‑on Mechanical Engineer to design and build electromechanical systems ranging from wearables to surgical tools.

Key responsibilities

• Design and prototype innovative electromechanical systems, including medical‑grade wearables, research tools and surgical equipment.
• Validate system performance in laboratory, wet‑lab and operating‑room environments.
• Own fabrication and testing pipelines to rapidly iterate and refine concepts.
• Collaborate with electrical, optical, software, micro‑fabrication, biology, quality and surgical teams to bring products to market.

Required profile

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Detail‑oriented self‑starter comfortable with open‑ended problems and quick pivots.
• Proven ability to navigate complex, ambiguous design spaces and deliver functional systems.
• Hands‑on fabrication experience with rapid prototyping, CNC machining and injection molding.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or equivalent CAD) proficiency.
• Precision mechanical design, materials science, and design for manufacturing (DFM).
• Optomechanics and microfluidics knowledge.
• Design for assembly (DFMA) and rapid prototyping techniques.
• CNC machining and injection molding processes.
• Finite element analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal or flow simulations.
• Basic machine‑shop tool usage.
